How long have you been working in the wire and cable industry?
CUNNINGHAM: I’ve been enjoying a long career in the wire and cable industry since 1989. I began my journey in distribution, spent many years in manufacturing, and now my career has come full circle since I joined OmniCable in 2023 and am fully committed to the true value of redistribution.
Industry 4.0, or smart manufacturing, represents the digital transformation of the sector. What do our distribution customers need to know about this trend?
CUNNINGHAM: Integrating advanced technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence, and machine learning into facilities is revolutionizing production and distribution.
As manufacturers integrate these advanced technologies into their operations, the need for a robust and secure network is paramount for achieving real-time decision making, predictive maintenance, and enhanced efficiencies. At OmniCable, we’ve expanded our inventory targeted at industrial automation to help distributors uncover new or expanded sales opportunities and become an even greater resource for their end-user customers.
Can you share a memorable project or challenge you’ve faced in your career?
CUNNINGHAM: I recall a particularly thrilling project at a previous company for a large auto manufacturer that came with tight timelines and budget constraints. The product best suited for the project was undergoing an engineering update, which was crucial for securing the win. Despite the pressure to deliver and bill the products within a very tight timeframe, my team and I managed to pull it off. The customer was thrilled with the outcome, and although the project added a few grey hairs and sleepless nights, it was a great learning experience. This success cemented a lifelong partnership with the customer.
Do you have any hobbies or interests that might surprise your colleagues?
CUNNINGHAM: I am passionate about music of all genres. I find that music can transport me to different times and memories or simply soothe my soul. I also love travel – my daughter and I make it a point to visit a new place at least once a year, preferably in another country. Our goal is to see as many countries as possible!
If you could have any superpower related to your job, what would it be?
CUNNINGHAM: I wish I had the ability to read minds to know exactly when and where products are needed. It would also be incredibly helpful to be able to self-clone so I could be in multiple places at once so I could get more work done more quickly.
